Change of Wind Direction from Nazca to Arequipa

After living in Nazca for one month, the wind decided to change it’s direction and BLEW us over to Arequipa where we found an organization that works with children in schools and in a town about 45mins ride from Arequipa.
Arequipa known as the white city due to buildings around built from the sillar white volcanic stones. A town that is at 2, 335mtrs in altitude.
A change of fresh air from our life in Nazca. Two different places where you can’t compare.

The churches are huge and beautifully carved with white stone. Carved walls and arches found as we take a walk around the city. More greenery around, the air is fresh and the city is full of people around. The view around with the mountain tops covered with snow and rivers that flow. There So many plazas to just laze and sit around.

The architecture is something different and it’s pleasing to just walk about and look at the buildings. We visited the Alliance Francaise there and it is a lovely place to take French classes!

We also went into some churches and since it’s built with the white volcanic stones, it makes the churches so alive and bright.

It was a pleasant change from Nazca as we could take our walks around. Going through nice cute little streets and seeing cute stalls such as the shoe shining stall. Usually there are people here getting their shoe shine. Then finding a nice little café to sit and enjoy.
There are even ladies who are beautifully dressed in the traditional costume asking tourists to eat at the restaurant where they are working. Cute ya.

One day when we went to the Plaza we saw a group of people on strike and police men ready for any chaos that might happen. We thought WOW!! We’re lucky to see this happening.. quick take some photos! The people on strike were chanting and walking around.. stopping all the traffic. You hear the taxis and cars honking.. What a noise!! It was interesting to see.

The next day we went back to the Plaza and OH! ANOTHER STRIKE.. ok… We finally figured out and were also told that the strikes are VERY OFTEN here in Arequipa! Hehehehe… ok.. so nothing special there after all.

So that’s Arequipa where we are supposedly to be starting our volunteer work. BUT not yet.. need to sort out our visa cos our 30 days stay is almost over.
